Staying chic in chilly weather

Staying chic and stylish yet warm in chilly weather can sometimes be a challenge. My solution is throw on some velvet and a statement leopard coat and you are set. I had originally planned to wear this outfit in Chicago for NYE. However, subzero temperatures told me that open-toed shoes and an exposed chest would be a no go. I can however, get away with wearing this outfit for date night in Tampa. It does not hurt that the purple jumpsuit brings out the purple in my hair more. Anything that makes me feel like a mermaid is a plus in my book. How do you stay chic in Winter

Belted Satin Jacket: Pajama Trend

Now I was skeptical about this whole pajama trend as day wear, but I am in love. Who does not want to feel like they are wearing a pajama robe all day? Sign me up. I instantly fell in love with this belted jacket because it screamed cozy, pajama vibes. I have already paired it with a cami and trousers for work to look office-ready polished. I can also pair it with a cami and jeans for date night. There are actually a pair of matching wide-leg pants, but I did not like them together. It looked like I was ready for bed. I opted for stirrup leggings instead. I know they do not look like stirrup leggings, but they are. I actually cut them off because they were too loose for me. #Shortpeopleproblems. This outfit would be great for either an upcoming Holiday party or for Thanksgiving. The high-waisted leggings and belted jacket will most certainly hide any over eating.

Blue Velvet Mini Dress

Surprise, surprise, I am wearing more velvet. I was not lying when I said that velvet is slowly taking over my closet. Lately, it has been something that I reach for ever day in my daily wardrobe. From shoes, to shirts, and dresses I cannot get enough. I even bought a fun pair of velvet leggings that I wish I could wear everyday. This dress not only caught my eye because it is velvet, but I really loved the blue color and the flirty tie back. Normally, I would not wear anything with my back exposed like this, but I took a chance. I have a love-hate relationship with my back. I am so glad I took a chance with this dress. Next time when I wear this dress I plan on wearing it with my hair up to show off more of this cute tie back.

All Black Everything: Monochromatic Dressing

There is something about wearing all black that is so chic. I also think it screams instant bad ass. Lately, I have been trying out more monochromatic looks with my wardrobe. Don’t get me wrong, I love mixing patterns and colors. However, wearing all of the same color from head to toe does look simpler and cleaner. If you are wanting to dress monochromatic, I would suggest starting off with a neutral color like black, brown, or grey to slowly ease into, and mix different textures of the same color family. Since I am wearing all black, I tried to mix different textures of black together. For example, my sweater is textured, my purse is leather, and my shoes are patent leather. This adds dimension and depth to my outfit. What colors would you wear monochromatically?

Red Striped Dress + Leopard Booties

Leopard booties are sure to jazz up any outfit. Actually leopard anything jazzes up an outfit. I love mixing mine with unexpected prints like red stripes to make a bold statement. Since it is finally sweater weather in Tampa, I could not wait to wear this J.Crew dress. It has been hanging up in my closet for over a month waiting for cooler weather. These leopard booties just helped to kick my outfit up a notch. I like being a little bit extra at times. I also plan on wearing this dress with flats to work and with heels for date night with David. If all over leopard is not your thing, try a little splash of leopard with these. I am debating if I should get them or not. I already have too many shoes, but what’s one more pair, right?

Pink Velvet Wrap Dress

A wrap dress should be a a staple in every woman’s closet. If it is velvet that is just an added bonus. My obsession with velvet might be getting out of hand. I cannot help it. This season, there are alot of cute velvet things in stores that are calling my name. This $16 fuchsia wrap dress was no exception. I loved pairing this bold fuchsia color with blue to really make my outfit pop. Plus, anything that reminds me of my wedding colors is a plus in my book. It also comes in three other colors like black, gray, and amber if the fuchsia is not your style. This dress can also be dressed down with flats to make the outfit more casual. I plan on wearing it with velvet loafers. Velvet on velvet is always a good idea.

Affordable Basics at H&M

Like any person, I love a good deal. H&M is my go to place for affordable basics. My sweater, skirt and shoes are all under $20 each. The skirt was only $10. Since it is velvet, there was no way I was going to leave without it. It is the perfect neutral color to dress up or down. H&M is my go to place for affordable, trendy basics. I love souring the sale racks for deals. The pink shoes were a last-minute find. I saw them as I was coming out of the fitting room, and even happier that there was one pair in my size left. For $15 I was sold. They are very comfy as I have already worn them for date night with David and plan on wearing them to an upcoming wedding. Where do you like to shop for trendy and affordable basics?

Distressed White Denim + Leopard

I have always been a tab bit self-conscious about wearing white denim. I always thought it made me look curvier than I already am. However, I have found the perfect pair of white skinny jeans that accentuates my curves in all of the right places. This distressed pair from Topshop is actually my first high-waisted pair of denim. I am only 5′ 3.5″ and curvy, so a high-waisted pair really keeps me sucked in and eliminates any plumber crack issues for me. They are super stretchy, but keep their shape all day. The distressing was just a bonus since I like my denim with some rips. I like distressed denim almost as much as I love leopard. I am convinced that I pretty much like any color scheme of leopard. This leopard tee with a gray leopard-print was something that I did not have in my closet and decided that it needed to be there immediately. I actually sized up for a looser fit.

Pink Pleated Skirt

A pleated skirt is a must-have wardrobe piece, especially when it is pink. This skirt  immediately caught my eye because not only is it pink, but it is velvet. Y’all know how I feel about anything velvet. Total heart eyes! The pink pleats add a girly silhouette making this skirt a fun piece to be worn many ways. I dressed it down with a white tee and platform sneakers. The bag just added a fun pop of color. Plus, what is not to love about velvet on velvet? Also, here is a fun fact about me, I paired this pink and blue together because it reminded me of my wedding colors. Anything involving my wedding is a happy place for me, so pairing the two colors together was a no brainer. I have so many ideas on how to wear this skirt. I actually bought a pair of pink satin heels that I cannot wait to pair with this skirt.  This skirt will be a staple in my closet year-round.

Distressed Green Striped Pullover

This past weekend David and I got to experience Fall-like weather. We visited Indianapolis to hang out with friends and explore the city for the first time. This striped pullover with distressing was perfect. It kept me warm when it was cooler in the mornings, but it  also provided me with my own a/c with the rips when the weather warned up during the day. Green has definitely been my go to color as of lately. I cannot stop buying it. I had been on the hunt for the perfect pair of leopard flats for a while now. I have bought pair after pair only to return them because they were not what I was looking for. Either I did not like the leopard pattern or they just were not comfortable. These leopard flats are perfect in every way. They were super comfortable for walking all around downtown Indy. The back can also be folded in to be converted into a mule. I have only worn them as a traditional flat and will probably only wear them that way since I already have leopard mules.
